Sergo Kobuladze & 20 Year anniversary of Vere Gallery, 2023

The given series of Sergo Kobuladze unite works that differ stylistically, as well as thematically. Sketches, drafts, outlines, and completed graphics in a way showcase the biography and stages of creativity of a universal master: “a path from idea to fruition”. The delicate and meticulous nature of the artist leaves no one untouched, which is apparent in this series. Each work is a demonstration of Kobuladze’s deep connection with the world. Nuances such as spaces, inanimate objects, cultural symbols, different protagonists, mise-en-scenes, and people in their everyday life excite the artist and overflow from his imagination into creation, as if the kinetics of perfection depends on all these details.

Kobuladze’s technique, artistic world, decision-making, and nuances provoke astonishment and aesthetic empathy. Only this can extend untouched, natural beauty into art without no embellishment. Ratio and beauty, passion and moderation, classics and avant-garde, create complete constellation.

It is hard to define Kobuladze as a 20th century Georgian artist, as his works have a strong resemblance to renaissance, with a person being the center of everything and the conscious symmetry of the earth relies fully on the mind. Objects and material items clearly define a world of humanist ideas.

This is how Sergo Kobuladze avoided the Soviet art and its limiting ideology. He travelled through renaissance, where the notions of human and individual were the same. The series of the artist’s graphic works are a diary of sorts, as well as a calendar. His day-to-day existence is overpowered by some inexplicable eternity.
