Reach Art Visual presented an exclusive private exhibition of Merab Kopaleishvili’s graphic series “The Tale of the Roe,” inspired by Vazha-Pshavela (a renowned Georgian poet and writer). This collection transforms literary narrative into a visual experience, where the artist’s imagination takes center stage.
As noted by Doctor of Art History and Theory, Senior Research Fellow Mzia Chikhradze:
“Central to this narrative is the artist’s imagination, as the story unfolds according to his fantasy, where the intuitive and sensory perceptions merge into a unified whole. Kopaleishvili translates the essence of Vazha-Pshavela’s story into a sense of tragedy, which becomes a recurring leitmotif throughout the series. The artist works with generalized, simple forms and employs a naive artistic language, where the combination of symbols and signs imbues each composition with striking expressiveness. The narrative is kept minimal, with the primary focus being the creation of intense emotion. This emotion, in turn, drives the narrative, making the sadness and tragedy of Vazha-Pshavela’s tale deeply tangible.”
This exhibition highlighted Kopaleishvili’s distinct artistic language, where poetic storytelling and visual symbolism merge to create deeply expressive compositions. His approach, rooted in simplicity yet charged with emotion, offers a powerful interpretation of Vazha-Pshavela’s timeless tale.
