Reach Art Visual Showcases Georgian Abstraction to Frieze No.9 Cork Street in July 2024

Frieze’s No.9 Cork Street hosted a captivating group show featuring emerging young  galleries from Tbilisi, Georgia. As the world’s leading platform for modern and contemporary art, Frieze is dedicated to fostering the talents of artists, galleries, collectors, and art enthusiasts.

The exhibition showcased five dynamic, female-run galleries: E.A Shared Space, Gallery  4710, The Why Not Gallery, MAUDI, and CH64 Gallery in collaboration with Reach Art Visual.

On the first floor, viewers experienced the exhibition portrayed by Reach Art Visual, along  with two artworks by young artist Merab Gugunashvili, represented by Gallery 4710.

At this exhibition Reach Art Visual, a visual art organization specializing in art identity-oriented experiences, constructed the show’s narrative around the history of Georgian abstraction,  highlighting the resilient and vibrant spirit of Georgian artists amid the nation’s rising political and social upheaval.

Featured Artists by R.A.V:

  • Tamuna Sirbiladze (1971-2016): Distinguished by her unique style of abstraction,  Sirbiladze’s works evoke a sense of organic fluidity and explore themes of sexuality and vulnerability.
  • Alexander Bandzeladze (1927-1992): A pivotal figure in Georgian abstract expressionism, Bandzeladze’s late works exemplify his artistic exploration and observations with a sophisticated synthesis of color and form.
  • Lia Bagrationi (1957): Known for her philosophical approach to time, space, and human existence, Bagrationi’s dynamic palette and varied forms create vivid and evocative scenes in her landscapes.

  • Merab Gugunashvili: A versatile artist, Gugunashvili works across various mediums including ceramics, textiles, painting and installation. His art delves into the themes of social stereotypes, gender, identity, and sexuality, challenging societal norms and provoking thoughtful reflection on these complex issues.

This exhibition not only offered a profound glimpse into Georgian art and culture but also underscored the importance of preserving and promoting Georgian art on a global stage.
