COLLIN DU BOGACE ART AUCTION
Reach Art Visual has successfully presented the works of Soviet-period Georgian artist Alexei Balabuev at the prestigious Collin du Bocage auction in France for the second time. This marks another significant step in bringing Balabuev’s remarkable yet under-recognized art to the international stage.
At the auction, three of Balabuev’s works were acquired by collectors: Forest in Autumn” (1991) was sold for 1,000 EUR, “Path in the Mountains” (1985) for 1,400 EUR, and “Flowering Branches” (1981) for 1,800 EUR. Interest in Balabuev’s work continues to grow, and we are dedicated to bringing more attention to his contributions to Georgian art on an international level.

The art world often highlights renowned exhibitions and famous artists, but it also holds lesser-known figures whose contributions lead to exciting discoveries. One such figure is Alexei Balabuev, an unconventional and non-ideological artist from the Soviet period of Georgian art, whose work has largely remained understudied. At Reach Art Visual (R.A.V), in collaboration with art critic Konstantine Bolkvadze, we are dedicated to researching Balabuev’s artistic legacy and increasing his international recognition.
In January 2024, R.A.V presented three of Balabuev’s works at the prestigious Osenat International Auction in Paris, a globally recognized event. His pieces—1990’s “Landscape” (sold for 1,071 EUR), 1991’s “Landscape with a Tree” (819 EUR), and 1992’s “View of Roofs with Swallows” (1,197 EUR)—were all acquired by private collectors at triple their original estimates. Balabuev, once a forgotten name, is now gaining significant international attention.
